  • No One Should Face Baby Loss Alone: Graco Supports The Worst Girl Gang Ever’s Mission.

  • Sometimes the hardest things in life lead to the most powerful changes. For us - Bex Gunn and Laura Buckingham founders of The Worst Girl Gang Ever - that change began with the words ‘I’m sorry there’s no heartbeat’.
  • Speaking the Truth, Finding a Community

  • In May 2020, Bex experienced a missed miscarriage. Like so many before her, she found herself reeling not only from the grief of losing a baby, but also from the shocking lack of support available to those facing pregnancy loss. In her search for help, she discovered just how isolating that silence can be. To make sense of it all, Bex wrote about her experience - first in an article published in The Metro, and then in a Facebook post. She wrote from the heart, not the aesthetically pleasing post that so often populates social media, but the ugly and brutal truth of what she was going through.
  • Thousands of messages poured in from people who felt exactly the same - lost, unsupported, and desperate to find others who truly understood. It became painfully clear that there was a community of people out there, quietly suffering in silence and isolation, all craving connection and compassion.
  • Around this time, Bex met Laura Buckingham. Laura had, by then, endured the loss of seven babies to miscarriage before going on to have her first son. She knew too well the heartbreak and the loneliness that come with pregnancy loss and she also knew that she wanted to make things slightly less horrendous for those who would come next.
  • Together, we decided to do something about it.
  • From Microphone to Moment

  • In the middle of 2020, The Worst Girl Gang Ever podcast was published. We wanted to create a space where people could come to listen, learn, cry, laugh, and most importantly feel less alone, we had no idea what we were doing and purchased a copy of ‘podcasting for dummies’ before we hit go. We chose the name because while no one wants to be here, when you become a member, you find yourself surrounded by the most incredible women, all shoulder to shoulder facing the pain together.
  • What started as two women (passionate idiots) chatting into a microphone soon became something much bigger. Listeners began to share our episodes with friends, family, and support groups, and before long, the podcast was reaching thousands of people every month. Today, it’s listened to around 30,000 times every month - a number that still blows us away.
  • Through the conversations we had with guests and listeners, we realised that the need for support went far beyond just stories and shared experiences. People were looking for community, guidance, and hope.
  • The Book We Never Wanted To Write But Needed to Read

  • In August 2022, Harper Collins published our book, The Worst Girl Gang Ever: A Guide to Navigating Miscarriage and Pregnancy Loss. The book brought together everything we’d learned - our own experiences, expert insights, and the voices of the countless people who had shared their stories with us. Writing it was emotional, but it was also healing. It allowed us to reach even more people who might never have heard the podcast but were in desperate need of understanding and support.
  • The response was overwhelming. Readers told us that for the first time, they felt seen. They felt validated. They felt like they weren’t the only ones.
  • Becoming a Charity, Building a Foundation

  • By 2024, our little “gang” had grown into a genuine movement for change. In June 2024, we achieved charitable status and officially became The Worst Girl Gang Ever Foundation. This milestone meant we could finally offer all our support and resources completely free of charge, ensuring that cost would never be a barrier for anyone seeking help.
  • Today, the Foundation offers an ever-growing range of support. We run weekly online drop-in sessions, a weekly podcast, monthly creative webinars and workshops, a book club, and a series of courses designed to help people navigate the complex emotions of loss. Our website hosts hundreds of blogs and resources, all created to provide comfort, information, and community for anyone experiencing the pain of baby loss.
  • Graco Helps Us Reach More Parents After Loss

  • Our next initiative is to develop what we offer for those who are anxiously pregnant after loss and parenting rainbow babies. Both experiences can be so complex and difficult to navigate emotionally. Thanks to a generous donation from Graco, we will soon be facilitating drop-in sessions for people navigating both journeys as well as drop in webinars and workshops specifically for those pregnant and parenting after loss.
  • At the heart of everything we do is one simple belief: no one should ever have to go through baby loss alone. The silence that once surrounded miscarriage and pregnancy loss is slowly breaking, but there’s still work to be done. Through the Foundation, we’re building a world where people can speak openly about their experiences, find support when they need it most, and know that their grief - and their babies - matter.
  • Building a Future Where No One Faces Loss Alone

  • We never set out to start a movement. We just wanted to make sure no one else felt as alone as we once did. But as it turns out, that’s exactly what The Worst Girl Gang Ever Foundation has become - a movement of empathy, honesty, and hope.
  • If you’re reading this because you’ve been through loss, please know: you are not alone. Your part of a gang that no one ever wanted to join, but that we’re so grateful exists a gang built on love, understanding, and the strength to keep going.
  • We get you, and we’ve got you.
  • You can find details of all the support we offer and everything we have planned on our website.
